About Us

The California Smokers’ Helpline (1-800-NO-BUTTS) is a free statewide quit smoking service operated by the University of California, San Diego’s Cancer Center. 1-800-NO-BUTTS offers self-help materials, referal to local programs and one-on-one, confidential assistance to help quit smoking. Professionals will help you make a plan to quit that will double your chances of being successful.

Helpline services are available in five languages: English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), as well as a TDD line for the hearing impaired. There are also specialized services for teens, pregnant women, and tobacco chewers.

Saturday 9am-1pm

The Helpline is an integral part of tobacco control and works closely with organizations and healthcare providers statewide in pursuit of the shared goal of creating a healthier California. Since its inception in 1992, the Helpline has served over 400,000 Californians. The California Smokers’ Helpline is funded by the California Department of Public Health, Tobacco Control Program through Prop 99, the 1988 Tobacco Tax Health Protection Act, Contract #05-45834, and Proposition 10, the California Children and Families Act enacted in 1998 at the local and state levels.
